About

These exhibits represent a product of the collaboration between the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and New York University. Material in these collections was digitized in 2007 and 2008 by Professor Robin Nagle's students. Professor Nagle is the director of the collaborative initiative to create a museum for the Department of Sanitation. An Anthropologist by training, Professor Nagle has spent several years researching the history of the Department of Sanitation as well as the daily experience of sanitation workers in New York City today. She is the official anthropologist for the Department of Sanitation, and is also a licensed sanitation worker. Professor Peter Wosh, the Director of the Archives and Public History Poogram at NYU oversaw the collaboration between Professor Nagle and David Benjamin. Amanda L. French, the Digital Curriculum Specialist for the NYU Department of History oversaw many of the digital and technological components of the project. David S. Benjamin, a graduate student in Public HIstory and Archives at NYU wrote many of the text blocks for the exhibit, and serves as webmaster and exhibit designer for the ongoing web museum project.
