Discussion Question
Sep 15th, 2009 by samanthagibson

I thought it was interesting that Wright draws associations between people’s access to and relationship with information and social and/or political upheaval (with the printing press and the Protestant Reformation or Diderot’s encyclopedia and the French Revolution, for example).

Obviously this is far from a perfect correlation, but I’m wondering if there is (or maybe was) a parallel information ‘crisis’ surrounding the Internet and digital information technology.  Y2K?  Napster and the ‘crisis’ of the music industry?

Can Rosenzweig’s dilemma in ‘Scarcity or Abundance?’ over information management be seen as part of that ‘upheaval’?

Could there be a digital age ‘crisis’ yet to come?

Also, my delicious username is samanthagibson.

Hi, my name is Samantha Gibson and I’m a first year student in the Public History MA program. I just graduated from American University with a degree in history and my research interests are nineteenth century American history and African-American history.

I don’t have much experience creating or formally studying digital technology or digital history, but I’m excited to learn more about the field and I look forward to meeting everyone soon!
