Check out Norma Jean Garriton’s post on the Grey Art Gallery’s blog, “The Grey Area,” where she recounts her experiences as a student in the class that co-curated the Triangle fire exhibition in collaboration with Marci and me. http://blogs.nyu.edu/blogs/fap2/thegreyarea/ Note: If … Continue reading →

There’s a terrific article in the Chronicle of Higher Education today about the work of a Benedictine monk, the Rev. Columba Stewart, who is engaged on a project to digitize early Christian manuscripts held in monasteries around the world. There’s … Continue reading →

Four recent IMLS reports on museums and libraries

The Institute for Museum and Library Services has issued four recent
reports of potential interest to list members:

Museums, Libraries and 21st Century Skills
http://www.imls.gov/about/21stCSkills.shtm
The website provides a quick online assessment for libraries and
museums to evaluate their readiness to engage the public and to
deliver 21st century skills, a downloadable pdf of a report and
in-depth assessment matrix for library and museum practioners and
policy makers

The Partnership for a Nation of Learners: Joining Forces, Creating Value
http://www.imls.gov/pdf/PNLReport.pdf
This report offers ‘how-to’ guidance on creating effective community
collaborations with museums, libraries, and public broadcasters based
on an IMLS collaboration with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Catalyst for Change: LSTA Grants to State Program and the
Transformation of Libraries Services to the Public
http://www.imls.gov/pdf/CatalystForChange.pdf
The first-ever analysis of the Library Services and Technology Act
(LSTA) grants to states program, the largest source of federal funding
for the nation’s libraries.

The Future of Museums and Libraries: A Discussion Guide
http://www.imls.gov/pdf/DiscussionGuide.pdf
The guide is based on a high-level exchange held last year at the
National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. It poses discussion
questions on the impact of economic, social, political and
technological changes on community needs and provides examples of how
some museums and libraries are meeting them today – as a springboard
for further discussion.
